Endless Nightmare

CHAPTER 12

In the Endless Nightmare, Jamie was in the downstairs bedroom with Anthony.
Jamie was sat on the covers of the bed, and Anthony had just come out of the wardrobe carrying maroon red leather boots and a matching jacket with lace.

"I still can't get over the fact you have that ability to become a werewolf, even when the full moon is not high in the sky." Jamie said.

Anthony was looking into a mirror on the wall while putting his boots and jacket on, but he continued to talk to Jamie nevertheless.

"I don't know if you've noticed yet Jamie, but the sun and moon never shine in this realm.  The endless nightmare is consumed by an eternally cold night."

"Then how do you stay warm?  Dressed in a sleeveless shirt, surely you'd get a chill out there."

"It's not what you think Jamie.  By being blessed with the magic that we both carry, we can keep warm within this environment."

"It reminds me of Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg."

"Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg; what's that?"

"A video game; something you probably wouldn't understand."

"Well I haven't been to earth as much as Christian has.  I've never had the kind of entertainment that you've had I'm sure."

"No, I guess not.  Dealing with the Shadow of the Nightmare all the time must be incredibly hard work."

"Yes I know, but it'll eventually feel great knowing that the job is done."

Anthony turned from the mirror and came over to the bed to join Jamie.
"Let's hope Christian gets back soon.  I'm determined to get out there and do some damage to the shadow."

"I know you are.  But there's something important you need to know Jamie.
Even when you find the Sword of the Holy Heart, The Shadow of the Nightmare can't be defeated until he passes through to earth and becomes mortal."

"I thought the Shadow wasn't given a mortal body."

"And that's why he wants to go to earth.  Just because he hasn't been given a mortal body by the good lord, doesn't mean he can't gain one for himself.  That's where the power of his victim's souls comes into the equation.  He's using the power of these souls not just to accelerate the portal's opening time, but so that he can gain his mortal body as he passes through."

It was then that Jamie could see the whole point behind the Shadow's plans.

"Now it's all starting to make sense!"

Jamie stood up, and tried to work out for himself the reason for the shadow's plan.

"So the Shadow of the Nightmare takes the souls of innocent children; he kills their bodies off, and adds their spirits to the portal so that he can gain the mortal body that he was never granted by god."

"You see Jamie, I knew you'd understand."

But Jamie was still unsure about one thing.

"I understand that much.  But what's so special about the Sword of the holy heart?  If the Shadow gets a mortal body when he passes through to earth, why can't you finish him with any other sword?"

"Even when he becomes mortal, he will still have his magic.  It's only with the sword of the holy heart that you can be protected from his power.  Now do you get where I'm coming from?"

"Yes, I do."

Just then, Christian appeared in front of the bed in a cloud of smoke, carrying the clothes for Jamie that he brought back for him from Earth.

"Hello boys." He greeted.

Jamie and Anthony both turned to face Christian.

"Christian."

"Sorry I took so long Jamie; it wasn't easy speaking with your parents."

"What happened?  Are my parents okay?"

"Your parents are fine, but the police have gone mad Jamie.  They think you're dead in hospital; and they wanted to arrest your parents for perjury, when they told the truth."

Jamie remained silent.

"Anyway; I've brought you some of your clothes from back home, so you can stay warm and comfortable."

"Thank you."

Jamie happily accepted the clothing from Christian.

"Now I don't have to be wondering around in my night garments anymore."

Christian ruffled Jamie's hair.  Jamie smiled and headed into the bathroom to get changed, carrying the clothes in with him.
When Jamie locked the door, Christian took the opportunity to change back into his robes.  He picked them up from his bed and went behind a dressing screen while still speaking to Anthony.

"While I was away Anthony, did the shadow ever try to come to the house?"

"His Servant came to the house accompanied by hundreds of werewolves.  Naturally, I knew that they were after Jamie.  So I decided to fight him in Jamie's place."

"And what did you do to fight for Jamie?"

"I transformed into a werewolf; Jamie was waiting behind the barrier in safety."

"Did Jamie become concerned when he saw you become a werewolf?"

"I don't know; I didn't look back at him.  I was too focused on the Servant's werewolves."

While the conversation was carrying on in the bedroom, Jamie had just changed into the clean undergarments he was provided.
He neatly folded up his pyjamas and placed them on the closed toilet top with the converse trainers that he was provided.
His used undergarments were placed on the towel rack for the time being; then Jamie picked up the clean casual clothes, and continued to get dressed.
First, Jamie put on his t-shirt. It was mostly purple on the torso and had long green sleeves sewn-on.  Next, he put on some blue denim jeans.
As he put the jeans on, his tucked the t-shirt inside them.
Then, Jamie put his trainers and pyjamas on the ground so that he could sit on the toilet top.
Jamie rubbed his feet with both hands.  He hadn't been provided with any socks to wear, but he wasn't going to complain.  Jamie picked up his trainers and put them on, tying up the laces.
Now that Jamie was fully clothed, he stood up and tapped his toes on the floor before looking in the bathroom mirror at himself.
Jamie's hair was scruffy; he picked up a comb from the bathroom shelf and tidied up the frizzy mess.
While he was doing this, the conversation between Anthony and Christian continued next-door…Christian had completely changed back into his robes.

"It's time that Jamie had our help to find the Sword of the Holy Heart.  But I would rather you take your sword this time.  I don't want you becoming a werewolf again."

The door to the bathroom opened, and Jamie came out with his pyjamas folded up neatly in his hands.

"Well look at you Jamie." Anthony said. "You're looking very trendy now."

"Thank you."

Jamie came over and joined Christian and Anthony on the side of the bed, and placed his pyjamas on the pillow.

"Jamie, I need to talk to you."

"Yes?"

"I don't mean to make this sound crazy, but have I ever mentioned to you that this mission is a race against time?"

"No you haven't."

"I'll give it to you straight then.  The Shadow's portal to earth as you're aware is powered by the souls he drags through to this realm.  The more he gets, the faster he can open it."

"How long do you think it will be before he can open the portal?"

"I'm guessing about 34 hours."

"34 hours?"

Christian nodded.

"That's not long considering the time that it's taken the Shadow to set it up."

"I know it isn't.  He's been working flat out to get that portal open ever since he came up with the idea, and now he's coming very close to achieving his destiny.  Time is running out to find the sword of the holy heart."

All of a sudden, Jamie jumped to his feet.  Christian wondered why.

"Is something wrong?"

Christian stood up.

"I only just remembered about the sword."

"Calm yourself down."

Jamie took a couple of deep breaths.

"Sorry.  All of a sudden I felt the urge to get out there and find it."

"The hunt for the sword of the holy heart may sound easy, but believe me it's not…the shadow's henchmen increase in number hour after hour.  It's very important that when we go, you stay close to Anthony and me."

"I'm with you all the way Christian."

"So are you ready to go on a real journey?"

"Absolutely."

Christian turned to Anthony.

"Anthony, get our swords."

Anthony headed immediately to the wardrobe to get the swords.

"We will protect you on the journey.  But you have to promise me, that if I tell you do something, you do it.  If I tell you to hide, you hide.  If I tell you to go it alone, you do so.  OK?"

"OK."

"Good lad."

Anthony brought over the swords, and passed Christian's to him.

"Are you ready to go Jamie?"

"I'm ready."
:iconrapiermedia:
Christian Halo brings back some clothes for Jamie, and then tell him about the Sword of the Holy Heart.

I apologize for this chapter being uploaded two days late, it completely slipped my mind.
